There's been quite a bit of news about the eviction and mortgage foreclosure moratoriums and what ultimate effect they'll have on housing markets when lifted. Some believe we'll see a giant wave of foreclosure activity which will provide buyers and investors more inventory down the road. Others (me included) believe lifting the moratoriums will increase inventory, but for a completely different reason. A majority of those who can't afford to keep their homes likely have equity according to ATTOM's latest U.S. Home Equity & Underwater Report. As a result, those homeowners will sell their homes to pull out the equity thus increasing inventory levels. Same result...increased inventory...different reasoning. Have a great week!
