For some of you insured by Citizens Insurance, you may have received a not so welcome surprise over the last several months. Citizens currently requires flood insurance for homes insured for $400K+ regardless of the flood zone where the home is located. If you're in Flood Zone X with a Citizens policy and an insured value above $400K...you're required to have flood insurance. Starting in 2026, the insured value threshold lowers to $300K and by 2027, all Citizens policy holders will be required to have flood insurance coverage regardless of insured value or flood zone location.
